PC board can be used instead of glass
The weight of solar panels using PC panels can be reduced by about half compared to those using glass panels, but the performance in other aspects is completely the same. This approach was first proposed by Solarge. And this start-up company based in the Netherlands is working hard to have a smoothly operational factory that can produce 500000 square meters of solar panels annually by spring 2022. The prospect of using PC panels to produce solar panels is broad.
As is well known, the thickness of glass used on solar panels ranges from 4 to 2 millimeters, and glass with a thickness of 2.5 millimeters is widely used. But PC boards can be made very thin, with a thickness between 1-2 millimeters. Thus reducing the weight of solar panels.
Other advantages of PC board
1. Impact resistance, with an impact strength 250-300 times that of glass
2. Flexibility, suitable for flexible solar panels
3. Temperature resistance: PC boards can withstand temperatures below -100 ℃ without experiencing cold brittleness. No softening occurs at 135 ℃.
4. Compared to glass, the production process is easier to shape, consumes less energy, reduces costs, and does not emit greenhouse gases.
5. In terms of investment, there is less investment in equipment and factory buildings.
